Together, you and your doctor will determine the right dose of AMBIEN CR for you.

When considering AMBIEN CR, it is important to talk to your doctor about your specific symptoms — such as problems falling asleep, staying asleep and/or waking up tired and feeling unrested. You may want to think about some questions to ask your doctor and some questions your doctor may ask you.

If your doctor thinks AMBIEN CR is right for you, he or she will prescribe either a 6.25 mg or 12.5 mg dose. For many adults taking AMBIEN CR, the 12.5 mg dose is initially recommended. Once you have used AMBIEN CR for a while, your doctor may adjust your prescription to a different dosage. The total AMBIEN CR dose should not exceed 12.5 mg per day.

Although AMBIEN CR can be taken for as long as your prescriber recommends, each person is unique—as are each person's sleep problems. For some people, taking AMBIEN CR every night is indicated by their doctor and can be beneficial. For others, occasional use may be their doctor's recommended solution. If you are unsure how often you should take AMBIEN CR or any sleep medication, it is important that you speak to your doctor.
