Generic Ambien user who switched to Ambien CR

"All my life I was a morning person. So when I started to dread my alarm clock, I knew my sleep patterns had gone awry. I lacked energy. And my stress levels at work and at home were off the charts. So, with a little nagging from friends, I talked to my healthcare professional. She first gave me a prescription for something called "zolpidem tartrate." I found out that this is the ingredient used in the generic form of AMBIEN. I tried it a couple times, but realized that it only helped me fall asleep—leaving me awake sometimes hours later. So, I went back to my healthcare professional and she prescribed AMBIEN CR. Turns out, AMBIEN CR is the latest form of "zolpidem tartrate". Its unique second layer helps me stay asleep.* What a much-needed difference. Now I'm the early riser again, the pancake-maker, the family-alarm-clock..."

Is your generic sleep aid not doing enough?

If you're taking AMBIEN (zolpidem tartrate), or a generic form of AMBIEN, you've obviously taken the steps to see your healthcare professional and discuss your sleeping problems. However, getting to sleep and staying asleep can be a bit of trial and error.

One of the most important things you should know is that AMBIEN and its generic form work differently than AMBIEN CR. AMBIEN, and the generic form of AMBIEN, are designed to only help you with getting to sleep. AMBIEN CR is different. There is no generic form of AMBIEN CR and it is the only form of AMBIEN that is FDA approved to help you fall asleep and stay asleep so you can wake up less frequently and fall back to sleep faster. Only AMBIEN CR has two layers that address both problems. The first layer dissolves quickly to help you fall asleep fast, while the second dissolves slowly to help you stay asleep–so you wake up ready for your day.* In fact, in clinical studies, AMBIEN CR was proven effective for up to 7 hours. AMBIEN CR can also be taken for as long as your healthcare professional recommends.

If your current sleep aid isn't letting you sleep through the night, it might be time to ask your healthcare professional about AMBIEN CR.

Can't Get AMBIEN CR?

FDA-approved AMBIEN (zolpidem tartrate or generic AMBIEN) has one layer to help you fall asleep, and is approved for short-term use. However, AMBIEN CR has two layers. The first layer dissolves quickly to help you fall asleep fast, while the second dissolves slowly to help you stay asleep.* So you wake up less frequently and fall back to sleep faster. AMBIEN CR can also be taken for as long as your healthcare professional recommends.
